It is no surprise that this style has undergone a revival.  These homes offer freedom from earlier more rigid styles, and a sort of commodiousness.  They celebrate simple craftsmanship and were precursors to the currently very popular Craftsman Style.  They were characterized by sweeping roofs that rose from the first floor as well as the second, and had wood shingle exteriors.  We were pleased to have the opportunity to explore a home in this genre.  We considered being pure and including a shingle roof, but shingles do not typically survive long in the woods in Virginia.  No space was wasted inside.  Consequently there is living space on four levels, and ample storage where spaces are low.
